Some cameras have a setting designated "CameraM", "A" for aperture priority or "S" for shutter priority where you can set one but not both of these controls. Please make sure the camera you purchase or borrow has an “M” or Manual setting that gives you control over both aperture/f:stop and shutter speed simultaneously.
(Shutter speed & f:stop.) Please bring your camera to every class.
In addition, students using digital cameras (minimum 4 megapixel) must provide their own USB or firewire/1394 card reader or camera connecting cable. This course is computer intensive and good computer skills are highly recommended. Students using film cameras will be required to scan or digitize their images for use in class. We will discuss camera options in class.
***Other Equipment/Supplies: It is highly recommended that all Media Production and Communications majors purchase a multi-interface external hard drive of at least 120 Gigabytes or greater. The best computer bus interface for our purposes is Firewire or IEEE 1394. USB 2.0 is acceptable but does not interface directly with Final Cut Pro. Many external drives have both USB 2.0 and Firewire interfaces. (An Apple iPod USB 2.0 can also serve as an external hard drive for file storage.)
